Play a spoof of adventure flicks

Cornell Drama Club will present "RUMBO," by Cynthia Mercati, at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 7 and 9, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, in the auditorium.

The Sunday show also will be the senior recognition performance. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students and seniors.

Reservations can be made by calling 412-264-5010 ext. 294 or by sending an e-mail to cornelldramaclub@hotmail.com.

The two-act, comedic adventure story is a spoof on Rambo and many other action flicks starring Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwartzenegger and Chuck Norris.

The story focuses on an unlikely hero named Albert Nerval, played by Charlie Dolgos, who stumbles onto a sound stage and, on live television, rescues hostages from the mean and nasty Dupree gang.

His heroics are caught on tape by the military, and he is recruited to serve his country, however he's not exactly a lean, mean fighting machine. Albert is a lowly perfume chemist.

"We worked together with the students to come up with their own costumes. Some smaller pieces are being made, but the majority of the costumes are gathered by the students,"explained Eric Jankoski, senior high life skills teacher and co-club sponsor along with Jennifer Taormina, English teacher.

"We purchase what props we need from various stores and make whatever else is required. Our parents usually help the weekend of the performance with tickets and refreshments."
