Gianni's opens shops in Cory, Moon
Rob Svihla of Moon Township is fast.
He can make a large pizza in 30 seconds.
"And if you don't believe me, I'll show you," he says as he takes a break at Gianni's, his new pizza and wings shop in Coraopolis.
But, Rob is not only fast, he says he can make some tasty pizza, wings and hoagies as well. He says anyone who tastes anything at his shops will say it's the best they ever had.
"And, that's the truth," he says. "Every shop we have is the busiest in the town."
Cathy Miller, owner of Mickey's, located close by, agrees. She used to make a special trip to the Gianni's restaurant in Hankey Farms because she says the pizza is so good. Now it's right down the street
Rob started in the pizza business right after graduating from Fort Cherry High School. It has been a career that has lasted 21 years.
He and his friend, Neil Gianni, became head managers at a chain pizza store in Moon Township. Rob also worked at some other local pizza shops and then he and Neil again worked together at a different pizza shop in Moon. Neil decided to sell all his chain shops, and he and Rob opened their first Gianni's in Burgettstown, McDonald, Hankey Farms and Cecil.
Gianni's in Coraopolis opened last month, and another opened before that in the Viola's Plaza in Moon.
Rob and his brother, Rich, own the Gianni's in Moon, and Rob owns the Coraopolis shop. Neil runs the McDonald shop, and Rich runs the Hankey Farms Gianni's.
Rob says he chose Coraopolis to place his pizza shop because of the close-knit feeling of the community. "If you're from Coraopolis, you know everyone."
Prep work at Gianni's is done every day, not once a week, Rob says. Everything is always fresh.
"The service is the greatest here. About 90 percent of our deliveries are in 20 minutes."
The white pizza seems to be the best seller so far, Rob says, but there are plenty of other pizzas to try as well as 35 different flavors of wings. Also on the menu are salads, many different kinds of hoagies, strombolis and calzones and sides and appetizers.
