Ethanol plant to expand
A Neville Township ethanol plant is continuing an expansion project on the island.
James Barrick, township engineer, said Pittsburgh Terminals, formerly an Exxon tank farm, has submitted plans and supporting documents for Phase 2 of the project.
The owner wants to install new storage tanks, an expanded truck loadout facility and about 5,000 feet of new rail side for downloading rail tank cars.
A plan review report has been submitted to Allegheny County Department of Economic Development officials who are responsible for approval of the plan.
Commissioners approved Barrick's suggestion that the township request that the Wolf Road extension include a leg that extends from PPC, across the Ohio Central Tracks, to a new intersection at Neville Road.
The cross road, he said, would reduce traffic at the Gulf Road light and provide an outlet for vehicles that would otherwise be stopped at the new Pittsburgh Terminals gate.
Barrick also said he doesn't believe a new traffic light will be needed there, but it is up to the county to decide.
He also will send the landscaping portion of the plan be sent to the the township landscape architect, Victor-Wetzel Associates, for review and recommendations.
The company recently installed four new tanks.
