Where is it located?
According to the Pittsburgh Trib, the site, called the Montour Junction property, might become home to nontraditional sports fields, such as for rugby, field hockey, lacrosse or soccer, said Jim Wilharm, a trustee of the Sports Legacy Foundation.
Bounded by Route 51, the CSX Railroad, Coraopolis Bridge and Montour Trail, it was donated by the foundation, a nonprofit founded in 2001, to the county through its Redevelopment Authority. For the complete article, click here.
The Pittsburgh Trib reported today that Allegheny County will seek foundation money to help develop the 78 acres.
County Chief Executive Dan Onorato said the development at Montour Junction, along the Ohio River just east of the Coraopolis Bridge, would require about $70,000 in environmental remediation. He estimated construction of the sports complex could cost between $10 million and $15 million. Visit the Pittsburgh Trib for complete story details.
