Discrimination suit filed by Moon Area coach
Tags:
Jamie Morton, who is aquatics director and varsity swim coach in the Moon Area School District, filed a federal age and sex discrimination lawsuit against the school district Tuesday.
The aquatics director contract for Morton, who was hired to fill the two positions in 1989, was not renewed in May 2007. His coaching contract was not renewed a month later. Athletes and their parents attended school board meetings last summer to protest the move and Moore was rehired in December, the Pittsburgh Trib reports.

ha ha ha ha gasp ha ha ha ha gasp ha ha ha ha ha ahhhhh now that is funny!
For as dumb as your School Board is, they really did a number on this guy, from ruining the future of the students he coached, stripping their chances of competing at an NCAA level.
Way to go Moon Area, yet you wonder why you cannot compete with the local school districts?
Because you are dumb!
He did get his job back but the kids still didn't make the cut. So it is either the coaching or the kids. Your choice.
You fail to realize these kids spent an entire spring, summer and fall without Jamie coaching them. They attended every school board meeting and worked hard to inform the public of the injustice being done. They were cheated out of their training trip to Florida, losing their deposit money. Teams such as Cornell can vouch for how valuable that training is to a team. Add that all up and the results of your season seem clear. Yet these kids DID make the cut. You must be unaware of their standings in their division, MAC Championships, WPIAL's and States. This IN SPITE of some hate filled, vindictive people. The best part is- these kids saw first hand about politics and persecution. Hopefully they are better people & citizens for the experience.
Morton was approved as a volunteer coach in September and later for a paid coaching position. The Florida trip sounds like poor planning not cheating. Cheating is a whole other issue. As far as the kids making the cut, my previous comment was a reply concerning the kids qualifying for the NCAA level not local competitions. Who are these hate filled, vindictive people? Maybe they will put their homes on the market and move away, far away.
The kids did qualify to swim at the NCAA level and several have opted to. The Florida trip was planned months ahead of time, but had to be cancelled when the school board had no coach in place, thus leaving no one in charge of overseeing the trip. That had been part of Morton's job. No assistant coach was willing to take on the expense and responsiblity. We can only wish that those hate filled, vindictive people would sell their homes and move far away. Unfortunately they get pleasure manipulating the system to create havoc and promote their agendas. They include disgruntled parents of swimmers who were unable to dictate to Morton how the aqua club program was run & their childrens desire for special status. It crossed over to board members who also either had children in the program & wanted to dictate to Morton how things went or had friendships with some of these parents. And on a final note, Jamie has never been accused of any wrong doing as far as varsity swimming is concerned.
"Jamie has never been accused of any wrong doing as far as varsity swimming is concerned." This seems like such an odd statement. Does this mean that he has been accused of wrong doing in some other matter?
"stripping their chances of competing at an NCAA level" This gentleman should be happy knowing that the students did compete.
I don't understand why Mr. Morton is leaving the area now that those "dictators" are no longer in power, but I wish him luck.
Gee, "Jane", you seem to have quite an obsession with trying to make Mr. Morton look bad. Funny, how you seem to have a background in realestate, even giving out the MLS on his listing. Anyone on the schoolboard go by that description? Or is this a case of "Identity Theft"? I bet I can guess.
No obsession here, my comments were simply a verbatim cut and paste from previous replies, yours included. No name calling, no insinuations, just discussion. The mls is posted on the web for all to see - www - world wide web. Remember the invention of Mr. Gore. I am not sure, but I don't believe there is a realtor on the school board, and I am not the girl friend of the board president. Calm down, breathe deep and count to ten.
You do not need to be a realtor to have a background in realestate. Even a "slum lord" falls under that category. You can call it cut and paste, I see it as twist and manipulate. I'm calm. If you need to calm down, try playing a rhyming game. Such as , what names ryhme with ten or gamey? HA HA HA GASP HA HA HA NOW THAT IS FUNNY!
Wow! You are so smart, you could be a teacher. It only took 3 days to come up with such a clever reply. Let's play! This time we will use places instead of names.
ten = Sven
gamey = Jamie
Now it is your turn.
bail = ??
evidentiary = ??
Good luck!
Sorry you don't like teachers, either. It's getting to be a bit like a drawn out ping pong game beween us. How about we agree to disagree? We'll wait and see what the courts have to say about all of this. No matter which way it goes, the taxpayers are going to be the losers. See you back here when it's all over - one of us should buy the other lunch. No crow though!
