Beth Chester was a Moon High School gym teacher and she resigned after sending a 14 year old naked pics on a cell phone.
There is a story in Saturday's Allegheny Times - http://www.timesonline.com/articles/2008/01/05/news/doc47804b49c48141194...
These are just some of the texts she sent the student the Moon Twp police report says -
9:19 a.m.: What were you doing? I was so (expletive) worried.
10:36 a.m.: Damn baby, UR sexy as hell.
10:45 a.m.: Sorry love U.
10:47 a.m.: I never want 2 get off the phone without saying I love U. Again, it’s my fault. Sorry.
12:06 p.m.: Baby.
Moon has a bad history of hiring horrible teachers it seems.

A former high school teacher confessed to police she had sex with a 14-year-old student several times, Moon police Chief Leo McCarthy said Monday. Beth Ann Chester, 26, of Scott, faces 14 counts, including statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, indecent assault and aggravated indecent assault. She remained jailed in lieu of $50,000 bond, the Pittsburgh Trib reports.
Technically, Beth Ann Chester is still employed by the school since they haven't accepted her resignation.
This is a sad story. Though people are innocent until proven guilty, just imagine what the student and student's family is dealing with right now.
If the Moon Area School District used the technology that the tax payers provide(Edline) the parents of this child and perhaps many others, would be aware that their child was tardy to most classes. That would be a red flag. It is curious and sad that when this happened to a female student (many say that there were several) just a couple of years ago there was not such an outcry. Moon no longer seems to educate by the 3 R's (reading, writing & arithmatic) but to the 3 S's - Sports, Sex and Salaciousness.
My opinion is this. With the way things are today with our Children acting much older than they are and also behaving older. We all as parents must do a better job of putting the noose tighter on our kids and know what the hell is going on. I have a daughter in the Middle School and she may not like it, but I don't miss a lick with her social and academic activity. Parents are too nieve today and its ashame.Lay the hammer down and bring out the paddles. Beaware of any close relationship with their teachers and observe, observe, observe.
Regarding the resignation of any teacher or coach (or employee, for that matter) of any school district, it needs to be acted upon officially by the school board. Moon's school board acted properly to address the matter. You have to remember that school boards only meet twice a month, and can only vote on any personnel matters or issues at their official public meeting. This incident also happened during the holidays and the board could not convene or set up an emergency public meeting just to vote on this matter.
People should know the procedures, rules, and facts before commenting on why they didn't fire her quicker. I'm not a fond fan of the Moon Area School Board, but in this matter, they did what they had to do.
The woman in question was dealt with properly and legally. If they would have done it the way the person above wanted it done. They would have faced possible lawsuits and fines for violating state and federal laws and the person's constitutional rights.
An emergency meeting should have been called. If MASD used the Edline program that the taxpayers provide, this could have been addressed much sooner. The Edline program can provide daily information concerning attendance including being tardy to class, excused or unexcused. Certainly any parent who sees that their child is tardy to most classes would ask questions.
